What is a dyno tune?
A dyno tune is engine tuning done while your car runs on a dynamometer, a rolling road that measures the power and torque at the wheels. The tuner adjusts fuel, ignition timing and boost in the ECU and sees the result straight away, under real load, instead of guessing on the road.
That’s the difference between a dyno tune and a generic flash tune: the map is checked against how your engine actually behaves, with your fuel, your modifications and your gearing.

When should you get a dyno tune?
- After modifications. A new exhaust, cold air intake, turbo or injectors changes how much air and fuel the engine moves. A dyno tune matches the ECU to the new parts so you get the benefit safely.
- After major engine work. After a rebuild or big repair, a dyno run confirms the engine is making power evenly and the mixture is right.
- When the car feels flat. If it’s lost response or uses more fuel than it used to, a dyno run under load shows where the problem is.
- Before towing, touring or track days. Hard work is where a bad tune shows up. A dyno tune is checked under the same kind of load.
How does a dyno tune work at Gen-Tech?
- Check the car first. We look at the cooling system, servicing history, transmission health and existing modifications. A tune can’t fix a mechanical fault, so we find those first.
- Tune on the dyno. We build the tune for your specific engine on our dyno, adjusting fuel, timing and boost under real load.
- Verify before handover. Every tune is dyno tested and verified before you drive away. Diesel tunes are also road tested before we hand the car back.
Is dyno tuning legal in the ACT?

Do you have your own dyno?
Yes. Our dyno is in-house at our Mitchell workshop, so every tune is built and checked here rather than sent out.
Do you dyno tune diesels as well as petrol cars?

Is a dyno tune the same as an ECU flash?

Can a dyno tune damage my engine?
A careful tune on a healthy engine shouldn’t. Problems come from aggressive maps or from tuning a car with an existing fault, which is why we check the car before we tune it. More in can car tuning damage your engine.
